Have you ever tried WD40 on your bait? « Thread Started on Jan 12, 2009, 5:29pm »
I know a guy that swears that fish are attracted to WD40, he sprays it directly onto his bait. This guy travels around the world fishing and seems to have a good collection of fishing tackle so he has some credit as a fisherman. I did a Google search into this and as you would expect some people say it doesn't do anything while others say it really works. Have you tried it? If so what was your conclusion.
Pete.
Note: I stuck this post in the wrong place, can somebody move it to 'Shore Fishing' please.
never tried it mate,i stick to fresh bait everytime or rubber/latex lures
save wd40 for rusty nuts and scottys outboard
pmsl karl ,
never tried it either , as karl said fresh bait with no additives works bests , unless the bigger fish spray there dinner with wd40 before eating ..... with a touch of salt of course

Managed too get onto a computer, sorry i havnt been online in ages... WD40 drives the moisture out of objects, when you use it on bait it releases more of the scent out.

Ive seen you injecting it into your squid baits dumpvalve
Just found the answer to this one on another forum......
yes janitor , some angling morons do use wd40,other pratts have been using esso multigrade, the geordie match anglers now are using girling hydraulic fluid, whilst the scotish lads seem to favour good old castrol tractor grease. The miserly Welsh national team has been using a strange concoction of scoffa loaf crumb and lithium based axle grease, especialy goodv for taking doggies 'off the top'. In Ireland last year ,the flavour additive of the day was texaco SAE 20/50 on the east coast, but the cunning west coast anglers round Dingle were found to be injecting castrol x into the ragworm to produce a pop up, better than floating beads! My team mates in the Kent Zziplex/Duckhams leauge are experimenting with a mix of graphite powder (courtousy of Terry Caroll) and sillicone wax, gives them the edge over the sussex/Mobil leauge lads who have been stuck using simonize demisting compound on their maddies for flounders for the last 2 years (lack of vision)! .Down on the Solent/Southampton water area around the Esso refinery ,straight king rag dipped in unleaded has been a firm favorite for many years, also works well near Canvey Island . On holiday in Albania last year I picked up some usefull hints/tips watching thier match lads fishing the sunken float method for Agean gars, they were liberaly coating squid strip with recycled tank lubricant, didnt catch bugger all but the smell was better than that of their WAG's that were sitting round watching them!!-I ,on the other hand have found that freshout yellowtails, tipped devon peeler,or common lug tipped maddies ,whites, king rag, calamarie, peeled prawn, bluey, sandeel, stringers, rockies, mackarel, bla ck lug, herring strip, shrimp, piddock clam,or snakes whites floats my boat!!! Just pulling Your plonkker Janitor-but do remember this-Wd 40 does exactly what it says on the tin-it does not say 'good for sea fishing'!!
